When questioned about a prospective comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Charlize Theron, star of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, seemed hesitant.
When the actress made her Clea debut in the sequel’s post-credits tag, she shocked fans all across the world. Nevertheless, the character had little screen time since she took Strange from Earth-616 to cope with an incursion he had started.
The actress previously stated that she “[doesn’t] know” when and where her potential MCU comeback will occur when questioned about it on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and that she hopes it wasn’t a waste of time, so Theron is obviously hoping she will return.

Charlize Theron discussed whether or not she is aware of the MCU’s intentions for her character Clea in an interview with journalist Josh Horowitz for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Unfortunately, Theron admitted that she doesn’t and that she “[hasn’t] gotten a call” since wrapping her work on the most recent Doctor Strange sequel:
“I don’t. No, I haven’t gotten a call. I’ve not gotten a– Is that bad? Is that bad? Is that bad? No, I’m not lying… I haven’t gotten a call. Is that bad?”
Theron previously admitted during a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she “doesn’t know” about her future in the MCU but that she “think[s] [s]he know[s]” what will happen next:
“I think I know. I mean, unless… I’m sure they can change their mind depending on what I say on this show.”
She did, however, add that “[she] doesn’t] quite know who she is yet, but [she] will:” when asked to describe her enigmatic character.
“I play Clea and um… Let’s just say I have some work to do… I don’t quite know who she is yet, but I will.”
What Does the MCU's Future Hold for Clea?
First of all, it’s unclear at this moment if Charlize Theron truly received a call or not. According to rumors, neither Lars Mikkelsen nor Andrew Garfield received any offers for the roles of Thrawn in Ahsoka or Spider-Man: No Way Home.
It makes sense for fans to be curious about Clea’s potential return to the MCU. She is simply one of the many unresolved storylines in Phase 4 of the Marvel Studios film franchise.
However, a third installment in the series is quite likely to happen before the Multiverse Saga is finished, considering the significance of the most recent Doctor Strange movie and Benedict Cumberbatch’s major character.
It’s unlikely that Marvel would begin using terms like “Incursions” (which directly refers to the Secret Wars event) without intending to follow those narrative lines, to which Clea is unmistakably related.
Disney+ is currently streaming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
