MCU’s First-Ever Showrunner Just Got Hired by Marvel Studios

The topic “MCU’s First-Ever Showrunner Just Got Hired by Marvel Studios” has two versions, a written version, and a video version below the written one.

Marvel Studios has made history by hiring its first-ever showrunner for one of its upcoming Disney+ projects in the MCU. Last month, it was revealed that Marvel Studios had fired the writers of “Daredevil: Born Again” and was looking to revamp the series. However, this was not the only significant change being made, as the company was also set to alter its entire approach to television.

Traditionally, Marvel Studios usually hired head writers for its Disney+ shows instead of showrunners. This changed the standard hierarchy, basically allowing for more people to be involved in the creative process, and placing the series writer a little lower on the totem pole. Now, the studio will be embracing the more traditional concept of using a proper showrunner. This means that one person will be given far more control over the project, leading to a more cohesive final product, at least in theory.

Daredevil: Born Again Now Has a Showrunner

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Daredevil: Born Again, one of Marvel Studios’ projects, now has its first-ever showrunner in Dario Scardapane. The series will feature Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in lead roles. Scardapane has previously worked as a producer on projects such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Netflix’s The Punisher, and has only one previous work as creator/showrunner on the 2009 series Trauma, which lasted for a single season.

Marvel Studios has recently made big changes in the way it runs its television shows. The company has shifted its focus to embrace traditional TV concepts, such as using showrunners, pilots, and series bibles, in order to better realize each project. Moreover, Marvel is now looking to move away from the Limited Series approach, which includes shows with only one season, and instead, the company is aiming to greenlight more multi-season affairs.

Marvel Studios Finally Makes Changes

Marvel Studios took over a dozen shows, including some yet to be released, to make much-needed and drastic changes. As the saying goes, “better late than never.”

Fans and critics have been asking Marvel to change how it approaches its streaming shows for a long time. The final results have been mixed, to say the least. For instance, many feel that the recent Secret Invasion project is one of Marvel’s worst to date.

Although it’s unfortunate that Daredevil: Born Again is going through so many production troubles, hopefully, the final product will be worth the wait.

It is worth noting that there are still several Disney+ shows that audiences need to watch before witnessing any of the new changes in action. Projects such as Echo, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Ironheart were already completed by the time Marvel Studios began adjusting its process.

The recent strikes have been rough for the entertainment industry, but there is a silver lining. It may have given Marvel Studios the time it needed to get its act together. Fans can only hope.

At present, there is no updated release date for Daredevil, but fans can expect it to arrive sometime in 2025.
