In the midst of anticipation for the MCU’s impending Fantastic Four film, a fresh rumor seems to hint at the first Marvel Studios adversary that the First Family of Marvel will face.
Because he is rumored to only appear in a mid- or post-credits sequence during Fantastic Four, viewers know not to anticipate the venerable Doctor Doom to play that adversary role.
The MCU must decide who will be the primary antagonist of this film, though, given the quartet’s large cast of Marvel Comics foes.
Fantastic Four Villains Reportedly In Place
Insider On the Hot Mic podcast, Jeff Sneider stated that Marvel Studios will use both Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, as antagonists in the future Fantastic Four film, which will be released in the MCU in 2025.
Sneider learned that the movie’s director, Matt Shakman, intends to “go very cosmic” and incorporate “both Galactus and the Silver Surfer”:
“I’m told that Matt Shakman is planning to go very cosmic with his ‘Fantastic Four’ movie. Lots of 1960s elements, and that the film will feature both Galactus and the Silver Surfer.”
Additionally, he discussed Josh Friedman, the writer of Avatar: The Way of Water, who will try to elevate Fantastic Four to the level that the MCU’s top brass is seeking, replacing Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer as the film’s writer:
“Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer’s draft of ‘Fantastic Four’ was fine, but they brought in that new writer to get it to the level that Kevin Feige and Matt Shakman wanted. Marvel is still open to working with Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer again.”
Will Galactus and Silver Surfer Shine in Fantastic Four?
That the MCU has grand ambitions for Galactus and the Silver Surfer is not surprising. They are two of the Fantastic Four’s most recognizable enemies, and fans are hoping that they will be improved upon after being so disappointing in the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
The MCU has a great chance to use Galactus in a way that will please viewers as that film simply used him as a massive cloud in the sky that did nothing before the Silver Surfer stopped him.
This is in addition to claims that a Marvel Studios Special Presentation focusing on the Silver Surfer is already in the works. This will establish his existence in the MCU before Galactus closely follows him.
Galactus has the potential to be a villain on par with previous MCU bad guys like Thanos or Kang the Conqueror, so the only hope with this decision is that he will be around for more than just one solo film.
The Fantastic Four feels like the ideal time to unleash the cosmic conqueror in all his splendor against Marvel’s First Family because previous MCU films have previously tried to tease him.
On February 14, 2025, Fantastic Four will make its theatrical debut.
