Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ epic rivalry was hinted at by Jackman’s stunt double as the two principal actors get ready to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool 3.
Jackman and Reynolds have both been working hard to be in shape for their biggest collaboration to date, which will see their iconic X-Men appear in the first Deadpool film to be released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following Disney’s merger with 20th Century Fox.
Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, will play a crucial role in the adventure as the veteran actor makes his first appearance in a superhero film since 2017’s Logan. Nevertheless, early narrative indications suggest that Wade Wilson will experience something of a “fish-out-of-water” story.
The MCU’s final film of 2024 will supposedly have Jackman in a “dual role,” as he put it, but the main attraction will be watching him reconnect with Reynolds to form the long-desired MCU pairing.
Deadpool vs. Wolverine Battle Teased for Deadpool 3
Hugh Jackman’s stunt double for Deadpool 3 Daniel Stevens posted a new reel along with a photo of himself from the gym on Instagram.
Stevens teased a fight between Logan, played by Hugh Jackman, and the Merc with a Mouth by posting a selfie of himself in a tank top that displayed his biceps and arms and writing to Ryan Reynolds that he is “preparing for [Reynolds’] beating,” in the caption:
“Thanks for everything you’ve done for my career Ryan Reynolds but now I’m preparing for your beating.

Stevens also used the iconic X-Men: The Animated Series theme song, which was featured in the MCU in 2022 during the episodes Ms. Marvel and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Jackman addressed the conflict between Wolverine and Deadpool in a January interview with People Magazine, calling it something he had “never done before” and hinting that it “gonna be fun” to take on:
“When I keep thinking of me and Ryan, of Deadpool and Wolverine, which are classic comic-book rivals, there’s also a dynamic that I’ve never really got to do before as Wolverine. I just thought, ‘This is gonna be fun. Something I’ve never done before. I can’t wait.'”
How Will Deadpool & Wolverine's Fight Scene Play Out?
With the back-and-forth remarks that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have exchanged since since it was reported that they would be working together on Deadpool 3, it is not surprising to see this rivalry reach the level of Jackman’s stunt double.
Fans are anxious about how the MCU will handle the Merc with a Mouth because of this rivalry, which is already being fueled by the actors’ frequent jabs at one another.
If Stevens keeps his word, it appears that this heated conversation will end in a significant fight scene. When the two ultimately come into contact, there’s a fair probability that Logan won’t hold back because Wade Wilson’s healing factor gives him some room to take a “beating.” Yet it’s still unclear if Wolverine and Deadpool will engage in repeated combat.
Considering that Deadpool and Wolverine are the first MCU mutants to play major roles in the already successful franchise, the big issue is how deeply Reynolds and Jackman will delve into this connection.
The release date for Deadpool 3 is November 8, 2024.
